BELMONT NC (May 5, 2015) – Racing 2 Cure, a 501c3 non-profit based in Belmont, NC is excited to announce the Inaugural Racing 2 Cure Festival to be held on June 18, 2016 at the Howard County (Maryland) Living Farm Heritage Museum. The festival will feature the 2nd Annual Riley Carr Memorial Lawn Mower Races as well as several inaugural events including a car show and corn hole tournament, as well as a silent auction and vendor/flea market. All funds raised at the event will directly benefit families fighting cancer living in and near Howard County.
The lawn mower races will once again be presented by Maryland Ground Maintenance while the races are being conducted by the Mason-Dixon Lawn Mower Racing Association. The festival will be from 8am till 4pm, with the races starting at 1pm and other events starting throughout the morning. Several dozen venders have already committed for the vendor/flea market, and registration for the car show and cornhole tournament opens today. The silent auction will feature items from sports team in Maryland, businesses throughout the state, and motorsports memorable.
“Father’s Day this year is going to be special in Howard County,” Racing 2 Cure Executive Director, Bradley Carpenter said. “We started this event last year with just the lawn mower races honoring my grandfather, my poppy, Riley L. Carr who fought prostate cancer and passed away after a ten-year battle last March. This year’s expanded event, the Inaugural Racing 2 Cure Festival is going to be a great family event that all dads will be excited to attend. From the car show featuring exotics, customs, and historic to a competitive cornhole tournament as well as lawn mower races the day will be filled with fun events. In addition, moms might find some great deals at our vendor/flea market.”
Registration will open today for Inaugural Racing 2 Cure Cornhole Tournament! The cornhole tournament will feature two divisions, 16 & Up and Age 5-15; with the 16 & Up having up to 32 teams and the 5-15 bracket allowing 8 teams. Each team will consist of two people. Early registration price is $20 per a team for 16 & Up and $10 per a team for 5-15. There will be door prizes and Top 4 teams in the adult bracket will get plaques and the Top 2 kid teams will get trophies with all kids receiving a goody bag. Those who do not register in advance risk the possibility of not playing as well as the day of pricing of $30 for 18 & Up and $15 for 5-15. The cornhole tournament will start at 11am and will last until all rounds are complete, estimating 3pm.
In addition, registration is now open for the Inaugural Racing 2 Cure Car Show which will have the following divisions: Old School Cars: 1949 & Older, Old School Trucks: 1949 & Older, Old School Cars: 1950-1979, Old School Trucks: 1950-1979, Turner: 1980-1999, Turner: 2000-Present, Truck: 1980-1999, Truck: 2000-Present, Exotic: 1969 & Older, Exotic: 1970-1999, Exotic 2000-Present, Muscle: 1950-1969, Muscle: 1970-1999, Muscle 2000-Present, and Open. Early bird registration is $15 per a car which includes a cancer awareness rear view mirror ribbon of your choice, chance at door prizes, and Top 3 in each division to receive a trophy with Top 3 overall winners receiving a plaque, in addition to a fan choice. The day of registration will be $20. The car show will kick off the festival starting at 8am, with judging taking place at 11am.
Furthermore, Racing 2 Cure is looking for vendors to take part in our vendor/flea market that will be occurring all day. The early bird registration price is $20 for a 10x10, $40 for a 20x10, $10 for electric, $5 per 8ft table while day of registration is $30 for 10x10 and $50 for 20x10. We will be having exclusivity for independent representatives for companies such as AdvoCare, Jamberry, Scentsy, etc, so please contact us first if you are part of any such company. Those who wish to sell personal items, such as a yard sale space, or handmade items are welcome to register as well!
