Carole (my mom) is a mom to 9 (yes, 9) and resides in Sanford, Maine. She is a lifelong race fan who has fewer tracks that she hasn't visited (Kansas, California, Homestead, The Glen, and Sonoma) than she has. She has also spent the last 20 years as a volunteer at a therapeutic riding center for youths with disabilities and has raised countless scholarship money for disadvantaged children who want to go to college.
In the middle of a year of tragedy where we lost my brother, she was recently diagnosed with lung cancer, a heart aneurysm, and a large brain tumor. The doctors didn't offer treatment. They offered hospice.
After a brief stint of steroids and light radiation, she wants to prove the doctors wrong. Her battle is new but her spirit is forged from 50 years of parenting 9 children to adulthood. She's an inspiration to all 9 of us and many more.
