I nominate this little guy, he is very special to me. His name is Adler. He is 5 years old and was diagnosed with arachnoiditis Feb 18, 2014, but after weeks of him still in pain they ended up in Chicago at Lurie Hospital on May 16, 2014.
After a 2 hour MRI of his head, neck and full spine, the results we amazing. he had over 3 times the amount of fluid in his head. The pressure was causing all the pain. He had to have a permanent shunt pit in his head to drain the fluids. It was at that time it was determined he did not have arachnoiditis.
After the shunt surgery and a lumbar puncture to test his spinal fluid, all the results came back clear. He was eventually diagnosed with grade 2 pilomyxoid astrocytoma or PMA which is a rare cancer. He had a port placed and started chemotherapy in South Bend, Indiana on July 10, 2014.
Adler has a 50-50 shot of beating this but anyone that knows the strength this little boy has makes us all believe he has a 100% chance of kicking cancers butt. He is a very strong little man. He just had his 6 month full body scans and MRI earlier this month and results are that the cancer has not grown any and in fact they believe they have gotten a bit smaller. Even after all he has gone through he usually has a smile on his face and gives his signature thumbs up.
